Joel Brower has been a homebrewer since 1997. In 2006 he was working as a cement contractor for Paul Vander Heide on Paul’s new cider mill project. Having already known each other for a few years, Paul asked Joel if he would like to try experimenting with hard cider. After two years of trials in 2008 Vander Mill began selling its hard cider out of its front store. Joel worked part time as cider maker for Vander Mill until 2011, when he was hired full time. With over 100 percent growth every year, Joel has seen the transformation of a small cider mill into one of the the country’s most innovative craft cider companies.
