Derek is an advanced-level homebrewer and blogger from San Diego who first started brewing in 2005. He is the events officer for the Society of Barley Engineers, proud AHA member, competition steward and BJCP judge in training. In his professional life he is a software engineer for WordPress.com, contributes to open-source projects like the BeerXML Shortcode plugin for WordPress, and frequently speaks at blogging conferences including the European and American Beer Bloggers Conference.
